Fans of “Sex and the City” have been divided on the CW’s decision to make a prequel for the HBO iconic series since it was announced. As well they should. While the series ended on a high note, making two feature length films yielded very different results. Sure, the first film was a blockbuster, but unfortunately the second was a massive bomb and tarnished the brand. Sometimes tinkering with such a beloved series can prove tricky, but I’m sure the CW knows what they’re getting into.

The Carrie Diaries“, also written by Candace Bushnell, follows Carrie Bradshaw during her younger years. The show will focus on a young Carrie coming of age in the 1980s as she asks her first questions about love, sex, friendship and family while exploring the worlds of high school and Manhattan. Sorta sounds like “Gossip Girl” meets “Sex and the City” doesn’t, it? Funny enough, Amy Harris who is writing the script and serving as executive producer with Candace Bushnell and Josh Schwartz, has worked on “Gossip Girl”. Curious to know who’s playing Bradshaw? Taking on the titular role is 18-year-old AnnaSophia Robb. I have to say, even though she doesn’t have Sarah Jessica Parker’s nose, I can definitely see a resemblance between Robb and SJP. AnnaSophia’s previous notable acting credits include “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Bridge to Terabithia“. She was last seen on the big screen in 2011 in “Soul Surfer“, the Bethany Hamilton biopic. Robb joins Stefania Owen as the only other actress signed so far for the project. Owen will play Carrie’s 14-year-old-sister. Who knew Carrie had a sister?

What do you think of this casting? Are you a SATC fan? Will you be tuning in to “The Carrie Diaries” next fall should the CW pick it up? Sound off below.
