Most picture Queen Elizabeth II as the stately conservative matriarch of the Royal Family. Decades ago though, she was just a young woman about to take the throne at only 25-years-old. Netflix charts the early reign of the monarch in its new series, The Crown. Prepare for a world full of intrigue and revelations.
The Crown is a ten-episode series about Queen Elizabeth II and the prime ministers who shaped post-war Britain. It’s based on the award-winning play The Audience. Reportedly, Netflix shelled out a whopping $156 million to produce this series- the company’s most expensive show to date. It definitely shows in the lavish trailer.
The Crown Description
“The inside story of two of the most famous addresses in the world – Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street – and the intrigues, love lives and machinations behind the great events that shaped the second half of the 20th century.”
Claire Foy plays the Queen while John Lithgow and Matt Smith play Winston Churchill and Prince Philip respectively. The series looks promising and quite dramatic with dialogue like this: “Are you my wife or my queen?” “I am both, and a strong man would be able to kneel to both!”
I fully expect some binge-watching action taking place on November 4 when the streaming services releases all episodes.
