This past summer, Coquitlam, BC native Tyler Shaw won the opportunity of a lifetime after submitting a cover online to MuchMusic’s Coca-Cola Covers Contest. This adorable 19-year-old is definitely stealing a few hearts with that smile that’ll make you giggle and a voice that’ll make you swoon. After a few months of prep, Tyler debuted his first single, Kiss Goodnight on Canadian radio.
The track is an absolute pop-candy earworm that I turn up every time I hear it on the radio. The video was released back in December but I finally saw it today when it was featured on the VEVO main page. The song itself definitely has an Owl City vibe while still staying true to Shaw’s acoustic sound. In the clip, Tyler and his crew break into a beautiful, locked and packed-up mansion in the forest, only to light it up with Christmas lights galore and enjoy a little night in.
At the age of thirteen, Tyler Shaw didn’t just discover some old guitar underneath his staircase, but in that moment he also discovered his passion. Having never taken a professional music lesson, Tyler developed his love and talent for performance on his own, and has drawn inspiration from a wide range of artists including John Mayer, Michael Bublé, and The Script. From one end of the country to the other, Tyler enrolled as a student at University of PEI, and it was here where his dorm friends encouraged him to submit some of his YouTube videos to MuchMusic’s Coca-Cola’s Covers competition. His talent didn’t go unnoticed and Tyler was chosen as the 2012 winner from over 13,000 submissions. His triumph was broadcasted live from the MuchMusic Video Awards stage in June of 2012.
What do you think of Tyler Shaw? Are you a fan of Kiss Goodnight?

Sounds as if one of the members of The Wanted lost their accent and went more mellow with their music.
I could see this being played in adult contemporary stations for CanCon reasons, but not in the top 40 stations.
