This past weekend, Homorazzi was up in Whistler, B.C. to take part in WinterPRIDE 2012 (which was a blast). Also taking place as part of the festivities was the Mr. Gay Canada 3-day challenge and we were there to witness the finale see the winner get crowned.
At the finale, where Homorazzi’s Tyrell performed, the five contestants answered their final questions and shortly after, one winner was chosen. Thomas Eglis (picture above) was selected to be Canada’s representative in the prestigious Mr. Gay World competition in Johannesburg, South Africa this coming April.
“This journey has been exceptional and exciting. The weeks leading up to this competition and the events themselves have taught me much about myself and I have grown much more than I could have expected,” Eglis said in a statement. “I am honoured to serve as a much-needed positive role model for LGBT youth in Canada and around the world.”

Eglis added, “Popular media and gay culture bombard us with stereotypes which can be confusing for people who are just coming out. I want to increase awareness of the true diversity of the LGBT community. I also want to promote healthy lifestyles in the gay community. I am thankful for all of the support I’ve received from family and friends, new and old. The next exciting step is to prepare for the upcoming event in South Africa , where I will proudly represent Canada.”
Also awarded at the February 11th ceremonies were Homorazzi’s Calan Breckon who won Mr. Congeniality 2012 and our friend Brian Webb who won the People’s Choice Online Voting 2012.

Yes Rob, Shame on you for saying that.
Canada’s gay community is very diverse and it wouldn’t have been a bad thing had it been someone of another background that was chosen to represent it. Please let’s not hate on each other for something so trivial such as race.

Rob Easton is right. Whistler Ski weekend was nothing but middle class white boys getting their groove on. Diversity in Vancouver’s gay population is non-existent. The dirty secret in Vancouver is all the white guys are secret racists!

Vancouver gays are full of diversity. If you want to see what no diversity looks like, come to Calgary. I haven’t seen a blak person in weeks.
