With the coming of a new year comes a new set of albums from some of our favorite artists. While a few are follow-ups to their debuts, some are continuation of a musical journey we’ve been following for years. This year, it seems that an exceptional amount of albums are coming even before summer hits and I can’t wait to check a majority of them out. However, there are a few that are standing out more than others and I want to share them with you. While some details on certain albums are few and far between, there is some leaked info out there to keep our whistle wet until official announcements are made. Check out what albums I am most looking forward to in 2012 below.

Scissor Sisters

Release Date: TBD, Early 2012
I CANNOT wait for this album. I’ve been hooked on the Scissor Sisters ever since their release of their self-titled album in 2004. Their follow-up album was an adventurous ride and Night Work released back in 2010 house some of my favorite tunes from the group. Fresh off accompanying Gaga on her Monster Ball tour, the group is ready to release some fresh tunes for their fans and I couldn’t be happier. They’ve already sizzled us with Shady Love and I look forward to hearing more this year.

Pink

Release Date: TBD, 2012
I love me some Pink. I’m so glad she was able to break free from her previous pop-inducing record label and able to shine in the more rock-edge type music that she’s been producing as of late. Can you believe we haven’t had a new, full-length album from since 2008? Yes, it’s hard to believe that Funhouse came out that long ago. Thankfully, we’ve been treated to some new tracks from her in 2010 but it’s time for fresh material in 2012. While no release dates have been officially set, we’ve been told we can expect things to start moving again this year.

Janelle Monáe (2 Albums)

Release Date: TBD, 2012
This ArchAndroid is ready to release not only one, but two albums this coming year. Ring the alarm! Her debut full-length album which was released in 2010 was one of my favorite albums of that year with tracks like Tight Rope and Cold War giving her some serious commercial success. Now, her “soul clock” (according to interview with SPIN magazine) is telling her to release two albums this year. I’m not complaining. She says the 84.799% of the record has been written. Get on the rest of it and share it with us. We’ll be patiently waiting.

Adam Lambert, “Trespassing”

Release Date: March 20
OMG! 2009 seems so long ago and it was. That was the last time Adam released an album. Thankfully, he took to his twitter at the end of 2011 to inform us all that he was working on a new album for 2012. While March 20 seems so far away from now, we have his single Better Than I Know Myself to keep us pleased until the then. The down-tempo track showcases Adam’s vocals perfectly and with his decision to team up with major producers who are known for their hits, this record is sure to be a smash! I think 2012 may be Adam’s year to make a gigantic comeback in the music industry. Let’s hope people are listening.

Justin Bieber, “Believe”

Release Date: Summer 2012
Let’s be honest – Justin Bieber’s music isn’t aimed at me in any way shape or form. However, I can’t help but be swept in to his radio-friendly pop melodies and catchy hooks. Also, after watching Never Say Never a few times, you can’t help but be inspired by this little youngster. I think his new album, due out this coming summer, is going to showcase a more grown-up side of Bieber that I’m sure we are all looking forward to hearing. After he released Happy New Year on the 1st, I suspect his new record will feature more that same, R&B sound. Cue the Usher mentoring.

Christina Aguilera

Release Date: Spring/Summer 2012
Christina’s album Bionic was a major bust in my opinion. It felt rushed, unimagined and uninspired. Now, with her judging The Voice and appearing on one of the hottest songs of 2011 alongside Maroon 5, the demand for her to release a new album is high. The singer stated that her next effort would be more “heartfelt” and “introspective”. I hope with that, she also throws in a little of those Back To Basics funk elements. That album is one of my favorites and I think that ‘look’ looked the best on her, wouldn’t you agree? However, I’ve read online that her first single may be called Fuck Your Body. That doesn’t sound very “introspective” at all.

Madonna

Release Date: Spring/Summer 2012
How can you NOT be excited for this album. We’ve already been teased so much with what to expect on this album. First, we heard a rough cut of her lead-off single Give Me All Your Luvin’ which features Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. and then her “W.E.” ballad Masterpiece was released. Then, a demo version of her track with Martin Solveig titled Turn Up The Radio hit the web. Whatever she does, I only pray that it’s better than Hard Candy was. Remember that? Thankfully, in 2009, she redeemed herself with the release of Celebration which had us all dancing. Let’s just hope Madge hits a home run with this album. We get our first taste when she performs at this year’s Super Bowl. Looking forward to that as well.
