Last night, the 2011 MuchMusic Video Awards took place in Toronto, and was co-hosted by Selena Gomez. Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga opened up the show with her new single “The Edge Of Glory”. Although the set was similar to her new music video for the song, I was much more entertained by this live performance as she had a bunch of backup dancers to interact with. It was a great way to kick off the show! After her performance, Far East Movement and Dev performed, followed by Snoop Dogg. I have to say, year after year, this award show keeps getting better and better. Oh, and Lady Gaga also closed the show with an encore performance, singing “Born This Way”.
One thing that did bother me was when Vampire Diaries star, Nina Dobrev was onstage as a presenter (before her boyfriend Ian Somerhalder joined her). When talking about the lively crowd in at the show, she essentially said that Toronto knew to celebrate, unlike Vancouver. Then said “Too soon?” Ugh, annoying.
The Video of the Year went to Shawn Desman for “Electric/Night Like This“, directed by RT (the man behind six of this year’s nominated videos). Superstars, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber each picked up two awards. Check out the full list of winners below.
