While I love “Malibu” and appreciate her more grownup outlook, I sorta miss the wild days of Miley Cyrus. Sans twerking of course. Her music during her Bangerz era was pretty darn fantastic, while her Younger Now phase is a little too mellow for my liking. Papa loves some urban dance swagger now and then. Luckily for us who loved Miley before her country-pop reinvention, a couple of tracks from her Bangerz sessions have surfaced online.
“Mustang” and “The Way I Feel” were both reportedly produced by Pharrell Williams. Given that Miley’s fiance, Liam Hemsworth, drives a Mustang, it’s safe to assume the hip-hop-tinged slow jam was inspired by him. With regards to the second track, you might recognize it thanks to Jennifer Hudson. Cyrus’ current Voice colleague snatched up “The Way I Feel” when Miley dropped it. She also swapped out Tyler, The Creator for T.I. for the rap interlude.
Check out both tracks below. Weigh in afterward if you like Miley’s demo of “The Way I Feel” better or J-Hud’s official recording.
