It was long-rumored she was part of Venom, but now it’s official. Michelle Williams confirmed her role in the upcoming superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character during an interview with Screen Rant. The 37-year-old Oscar-nominated actress is playing Ann Weying, Eddie Brock’s ex-wife (Venom) in the Marvel Comics Universe.
“We’re having fun,” Williams said. “We’re having fun. For me it’s Tom [Hardy]. I just thought, ‘Well, that guy knows what he’s doing. I’m just going to go steal some of his moves, figure out what he knows.’ You know, you’re only as good as the people you play with and I really wanted to challenge myself with him as a partner.”
In the comics, Weying is a successful lawyer who assists Spider-Man by sharing some of her ex-husband’s history. Eventually, Weying becomes She-Venom when the Venom Symbiote temporarily bonds with her to save her life.
Given her resume filled with serious dramatic films, it’s not surprising that Williams is adjusting to filming a big-budget special effects laden flick.
“I’ve done one other movie where I was asked to track a tennis ball with my eyes and pretend it was a giant creature thing,” Williams says. “Not my favorite thing in the world to do, but it is a skill set and I’m trying to learn it.”
In addition to Tom Hardy and Williams, Jenny Slate and Riz Ahmed are also set to appear. Woody Harrelson and Reid Scott are rumored to be taking part as well. Venom is set to arrive in theaters on October 5, 2018. What do you think of Williams joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Weigh in below.
