Starlets, models, divas, and legends all brought their fashion A-game to last night’s 2011 Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala Benefit in New York City. The night celebrated the unveiling of the “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” exhibit at the museum. Sarah Burton, who designed Kate Middleton’s wedding dress was on hand to honor the work of the late designer and unveiled the exhibit. It was the biggest night of the fashion calender.

With all these ladies fighting it out for top fashion honors, you knew there were would be as many hits as there would be misses. Thankfully, they didn’t disappoint on either fronts. Check out a few of the ladies who looked stunning and those who stunned, and not for a good reason.

Gossip Girl Stars (above)

Leighton Meester: Louis Vuitton
Blake Lively: Chanel
Jessica Szohr: Topshop

Normally Blake doesn’t disappoint, but this was not good. It didn’t compliment her banging body. Jessica looked a little too clubby for a gala. Loved Leighton’s dress and shoes, but not together. As a whole, the Upper East Siders didn’t fare so well.

Glee Stars

Lea Michele: Escada
Gwyneth Paltrow: Stella McCartney
Dianna Agron: Michael Kors

While the Gossip Girl stars missed the boat, the Glee ladies hit all the right notes. All three were the epitome of simple elegance. How sick are those heels on Gwyneth? If I was a drag queen, I’d definitely want those. Also loved Dianna’s Wonder Woman-looking bracelets. Fierce.

Young Starlets

Ginnifer Goodwin: Custom Topshop
Taylor Swift: J Mendel
Kristen Stewart: Proenza Schouler
Emma Stone: Lanvin
Ashley Greene: Donna Karan

Joe Jonas’ exes (Taylor & Ashley) both looked beautiful in safe nude-colored gowns. Normally, I’m not a fan of cut-outs, but I’m obsessed with Ginnifer’s dress. It’s bold, sexy and daring. Also love the print/patterns on Kristen and Emma’s dress. Pink lips are all the rage this season and Emma shows how to pull it off.

Mature Ladies

Penelope Cruz: Oscar de la Renta
Sarah Jessica Parker: Alexander McQueen
Madonna: Stella McCartney
Naomi Watts: Stella McCartney
Eva Mendes: Stella McCartney

While the younger ladies were out in full force, the older gals all proved they still got it. When I picked the ones I liked, I had no idea three of them would be Stella McCartney and one McQueen. Apparently, I’m all about the British designers this season.

“Interesting” Looks

Christina Ricci: Zac Posen
Freida Pinto: Chanel
Solange Knowles: Dries Van Noten
Jennifer Lopez: Gucci
Kirsten Dunst: Chanel

Oh where to begin. Christina still looks like she’s dressing for “Sleepy Hollow”. Freida, simply NO. Solange is trying a bit too hard to stand out from Beyonce’s shadow- too much print. Jennifer should burn that heinous shrug and Kirsten… What ever happened to her? Remember when she was the IT girl in Hollywood. Horrible dress and even gnarlier looking hair. Someone please get her a stylist and revive her career.

A League of Her Own

Barbara Walters certainly didn’t look at “The View” in the mirror before stepping out in this atrocity

Best & Worst Dressed

My top five, in no particular order, are: Gwyneth Paltrow, Eva Mendes, Ginnifer Goodwin, Taylor Swift and Dianna Agron.

Picking on a senior citizen and a legend isn’t my cup of tea, so I’ll give Barbara a pass for my worst dressed honors. Instead, I’ll award it to Blake Lively. She should know better than to show up in that. xoxo Gossip Girl.
