Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary Adds WTF, Emoji, Photobomb & More

“Any of various small, images, symbols or icons used in text fields in electronic communication to express the emotional attitude of the writer, convey information succinctly, communicate a message playfully without using words, etc.”

Seems like a winded way of saying cute pics in text messsages 😉 Emoji is just one of more than 1,700 other words being added to the unabridged Merriam-Webster dictionary. Naturally, plenty of the new entries are very familiar to those who are internet savvy. Check out more words below that made the cut.

Photobomb, meme, WTF, net neutrality and NSFW are a few of the internet-friendly ones. Some other interesting words include hsaing-waing, slendro, eggcorn, vocal fry, clickbait, colony collapse disorder and colossal squid. Surprisingly, macaron is also a new addition. I could eat two dozen of those brightly colored sandwich cookies in one sitting. YUM!!!
