Out of Nicole Scherzinger’s backup singers AKA the Pussycat Dolls, Melody Thornton probably had the best shot at a solo singing career. It’s no wonder why she felt so slighted by Nicole that she didn’t receive many opportunities to sing lead. Instead, Thornton was relegated to belting out screechy wails like Mercedes does on “Glee“. The 26-year-old is back and looking to show off a different side with her new track.
“Sweet Vendetta” made its debut on YouTube last week and is receiving positive feedback. It’s probably the best effort from any of the former Dolls minus Scherzinger’s latest tracks. As much as I was never a fan of Nicole’s when she was part of PCD, I have to admit, her past three tracks have really hooked me- especially “Don’t Hold Your Breath“. But enough about Nicole, let’s get back to Melody. Can’t keep pushing Thornton for much longer, because girlfriend is going to blow up.
I have to say, it’s not bad. Melodically, it’s catchy and Melody’s sassy soulful vocals are on point. Definitely appreciate the old Motown throwback sound on the track. “Sweet Vendetta” was written and produced by Melody herself along with Chris Mann, Church + State and Adrian Bradford. Check it out below.
Melody Thornton “Sweet Vendetta”
“Just like a wild horse / my love is strong / I’ll be willing to fight for that love and carry on / just like a phoenix leaving my nest / I’ll be willing to draw blood in my own defense / that’s why you’re my sweet vendetta / stab me in the back babe / you’re my sweet vendetta / remove my heart the hard way / you’re my sweet vendetta / that’s why you’re never letting go / I’m coming for you, babe / and you don’t get to love no more.”
Like Scherzinger and Kimberly Wyatt, Melody is testing out the waters across the pond and releasing “Sweet Vendetta” in the UK. It’s smart to work out the kinks before bombing in the US. She recently appeared on ITV’s “Popstar to Operastar“. Melody was eliminated third in the the show’s second series. Taking advantage of her recent appearance, Thornton is hoping to cash in with her new single. Smart move considering how strong the single is. What did you think?
