meet-stephen

Today, it’s Stephen’s turn to be in the spotlight. This fifth generation Vancouverite enjoys staying active by running on the seawall, curling with his boyfriend Kevin, Donovan, and Brian, and dancing the night away with everyone! With a background in geography and a keen interest in sustainability and public policy, this self-confessed “news junkie” loves finding new ways to reduce his ecological footprint and tries (too hard sometimes) to be “Switzerland” when it comes to conflicts between friends.

What is your Horoscope Sign?
Virgo.

What is your Dream Job?
To have my own travel show and be paid to explore the myriad cultures and landscapes that surround the globe. Oh, and perpetual retirement would be nice too.

What is one of your Pet Peeves?
When people cut others off in conversation. It often truncates the topic of conversation to the point where no one knows what they were trying say, or remembers where the conversation was when the interruption occurred, or the topic has been changed so often and now has nothing to do with what was said in the first place! Either way, silence often follows and then I roll my eyes with displeasure (insert pursed-lipped dirty look here).

What is your Guilty Pleasure when it comes to Fast Food or Junk Food?
Definitely rich dessert foods. My major weaknesses: cheesecake, dark chocolate, green tea gelato. And, sometimes I “forget” to make breakfast in the morning just so I can get one of those incredo-delicious breakfast sandwiches either at Mickey D’s, Timmy Ho’s, or ‘Buckies.

What is your Favorite Quote?
I have a few clever ones that I like, but the one that takes the cake- and probably always will- comes from a close friend of mine who shall remain nameless: “I have a self-defecating sense of humour.”

What is your favorite Childhood Memory?
I have many great memories of going to the local beaches; Ambleside, Third Beach, and Spanish Banks in the summer with my Mum and my brother when we were really young. On the days my Mum would have off of work during the week, we would- if it was a sunny day- pack up our towels, bathing suits, pales and shovels, and a picnic lunch, and head off to the beach. I blame her completely for the fact that I don’t think I could ever live away from the ocean: it feels like home to me.

If you could be someone else in the Homorazzi cast, who would you be and why?
Hmmm, that’s a tough one. I think it’d be really cool to be Jonny for a day as he has to have one of the coolest jobs around, and I have so much respect for the fact that he’s out and completely himself on a major local Top 40 radio station. I don’t know if he’s aware of it but I think there are a lot of younger listeners that look up to him as a role model and think he’s pretty awesome just for that.

What is one of your Bad Habits?
Unfortunately, I sometimes bite my fingernails. I’ve gotten so much better in the past few years though, but self-policing is tough and I admit that it still happens from time to time. Thankfully I no longer bite my toenails…

What’s your fave drink/cocktail?
Negroni. It’s the perfect Autumn cocktail.

What are three personality traits you would use to describe yourself?
Empathetic, Self-aware, Critical/Cynical.

What are three personality traits people would use to describe you?
Outgoing, Supportive, Analytical.

What are some of your nicknames?
Seb, Sebberlotte, Sebby City, Gurl, Steve.

What cartoon character would you be and why?
I don’t really watch cartoons anymore so I can’t really give you a current one. Maybe Donatello from TMNT, he was always brains over brawn and I liked that. Or Yakko from the Animaniacs. I remember watching them back in the day and just laughing my ass off to the point of crying many times.
