Sorry for the lack of Pop-Tart Pick lately, the holidays were a bit crazy but now it’s back to music madness. I’ve picked Medina for this weeks pick. Born Andrea Fuentealba Valbak on November 30/1982, this Danish delight caught my ear when I heard “You and I” (Deadmau5 Remix) and I did a little digging. Originally the song was written in Danish and called “Kun for mig,” written by Medina, Jeppe Federspiel and Rasmus Stabell and later translated into English by Adam Powers and Julie Steincke. Originally being released in Denmark late 2008, it spent 52 weeks on the singles chart and six weeks at number one.

In July 2010 Medina released her international debut album, Welcome to Medina. There are 12 tracks on the album and I managed to get my hands on a copy of it. WOW. I’m really amazed by this girl. She writes/co-writes everything she sings and despite the fact that English isn’t her first language her lyrics are beautifully sculpted and sometimes haunting. I’m very much in love this this album and highly suggest everyone looking for it and getting it.

Her latest song release is “Addiction” and I’m addicted for sure. It was released November 26th/2010, reaching #1 on the Danish Singles Chart on December 17th/2010. I love the music video for the song and hope that this girl gets a chance to make it big in North America.
