Five Movies To See In May

Spring has sprung and May is here. That means it’s time to talk about some exciting upcoming movies that are opening this month. It’s looking to be an entertaining month on the movie front with some big blockbuster hits, an instant indie classic and an adorable animated film with an all-star cast.

Here are my picks for must see movies for the month of May…

The Great Gatsby

Opens May 10th

Why you should see it: It’s been 17 years since Baz Luhrmann and Leonardo DiCaprio teamed up for Romeo + Juliet (Does that make you feel old?) If that hasn’t sold you, the stunning 3D visuals and eclectic Jay-Z curated soundtrack should do the trick.

Star Trek Into Darkness

Opens May 17th

Why you should see it: Two words. Chris. Pine. Even if you’re not a sci-fi fan like me, or have grown distant from the franchise during the 4-year wait between films, you can’t deny a face like that on screen for 2 hours. That alone is worth the price of admission.

Opens May 22nd

Why you should see it: The latest animated feature from 20th Century Fox comes from the creators of Rio and Ice Age. If that doesn’t sell you, the film includes the voice talents of Josh Hutcherson, Colin Farrell, Aziz Ansari, Amanda Seyfried, Steven Tyler and BEYONCE! With such a star studded cast I’m sure the movie will be great!

The Hangover 3

Opens May 24th

Why you should see it: I’ll admit the second installment wasn’t as great as the first, but a trilogy is a trilogy and you need to see all three. Having turned away from the format of the first two films, The Hangover 3 already feels different and fresh and I’m sure will be hilarious.

The Kings of Summer

Opens May 31st

Why you should see it: My number one must see for the month. This film opened to rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival. A charmingly hilarious coming of age story that blends Superbad with Stand By Me. Oh ya, and Megan Mulally is in it. DUH!
