When ABC banished Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. to summer 2019, I assumed it would be the superhero series’ last. Guess I was wrong. ABC has renewed the Marvel series for a seventh season, months before the sixth one even airs. Like Season 6, Season 7 is expected to air 13 episodes.
S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 averaged just 2 million viewers and 0.5 demo rating during its new Friday home. However, it enjoyed a 140 percent gain when DVR playback numbers were factored in. It’s the most of any network program.
Why the early renewal? Deadline reports it’s most likely tied to the cast’s options coming up. In addition, the advance notice “would allow for the two shorter seasons to be filmed back-to-back, which helps to reduces costs,” according to the publication.
Do you still watch the show? I stopped around Season 2. Weigh in below.
