Maroon 5 is one of those rare acts that actually gets better with age. V, their last offering, topped the Billboard Top 200 album chart and spawned three Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hits. The Adam Levine-fronted band consistently delivers when it comes to radio-friendly tracks. Their new single is no exception.
“Don’t Wanna Know” is the first taste off their forthcoming sixth studio LP. Like many tracks lately, the Benny Blanco-produced number features a tropical-tinged EDM sound. To add a little edge, Kendrick Lamar contributes a couple of rap verses. Truthfully, the rap break seems a little out of place and disjointed, but I love Kendrick, so I’m willing to overlook Maroon 5’s obvious ploy to appeal to urban radio.
The music video, directed by David Dobkin will premiere Friday on NBC’s Today. Dobkin previously worked with the band for their most-viewed visual to date, “Sugar.” Until that premieres, give “Don’t Wanna Know” a listen below. The chorus is insanely catchy.
