Yes, this point of view is likely to get me a couple of comments from our more democratically-obsessed writers here at homorazzi, but I have to say it… I’m so proud I don’t vote!
I’m sorry, but really? Millions upon millions (upon millions) of dollars are spent on campaigns, consensus groups, polling etc. etc. and it comes down to “going with the man you trust and believe in”- democracy at its best- and then… he abandons his post, his family and his country to “visit a dear, dear friend [WINK].” Simply awesome.
Likely you’ve heard by now about this scandal down south, but if not, then here goes. The Governor of South Carolina, Rep. Mark Sanford, left the U.S. for a week without telling anyone- supposedly- where he was heading. Oh wait, no, apparently he told his staff he was heading to conquer the Appalachian Trail- I’d typically tend to doubt politicians, but I’m essaying to take a page from some pro-voters on our cast and learning to trust the system as it is… (I can’t believe I got that out with out laughing ;) So, on this “hiking of the east coast,” this repeatedly-voted-in, father of four, missed out on Father’s Day and somehow ended up in Argentina… in Buenos Aires… with his mistress.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t really judge people based on their sexual choices- not even their less-than morally driven choices. I ain’t perfect, so don’t expect it of others. But, after reading that the governor left his kids and family all of a sudden, lied to his staff and didn’t report his trip to a single person so that his position as a leader of an entire state in the U.S. would be taken care of, I got pretty damn annoyed. How in the hell am I suppose to appreciate the worth of “learning the facts about policies, researching voting patterns for hours on end and identifying complicated party line differences,” when in the end, the guy I vote for ends up lying to the country and abandoning the post I spent so much time studying about for his “dear, dear” Argentinian lover? We’ve all had sex in Buenos Aires- I get it- but all this episode makes me think, once again, is that this democratic system doesn’t work!
We need truth, unadulterated by “liberally-biased” media, or “right-wing, conservative” lunacy, to be fully evaluated by a select and educated few that don’t just have to get their news from “nbc.com” like the rest of us. This guy has been cheating for at least a year and his wife has even known for five months… nothing us average, representative populace would have ever discovered based on the 20 minutes a day most people have (at most) to dedicate to politics. It took the Associated Press about 9 seconds to find his erotic emails once an observant few out there demanded they put any effort into it. But alas, the democratic system is built for the masses- masses that can only ask so many questions and get so much information…
Maybe this was a one-in-a-million occurrence… … …?
I’m sure I’ll start voting REAL soon…!
Did I mention Mark’s even a 2012 presidential candidate according to Wikipedia!
Gotta love it!

I say “right on” if he wants to escape for a week and sleep with some hot mistress his wife already knows about in Brazil. It’s his religious hypocrisy and ridiculous policies which are offensive (ie wanting to reject the stimulus package when SC had the second highest unemployment rate in the USA). I’m not sure what this story has to do with you being to lazy to vote ;-)

Hahaha, I began reading about his ridiculous policies and the whole wanting to impeach clinton for HIS sexual indiscretion and got so fed up I didn’t want to just list his ridiculousness so instead just wanted to say that this is yet another reason I hate the current political system. I’m DEFINITELY not the political one of the bunch so this is more a continuation of my past article- that’s why :)
