Mariah Carey has a hit or miss track record when contributing to movie soundtracks. Her duet with Whitney Houston on “When You Believe” for The Prince of Egypt was phenomenal. While almost everything from her movie debut, Glitter, flopped hardcore. Hopefully, her latest foray into movie music will yield results more in line with “When You Believe.”
Walt Disney Studios tapped the 42-year-old singer to record a track for Oz the Great and Powerful. “Almost Home” was co-written and co-produced by Carey herself. The full length version will hit radio on Tuesday, February 19. The accompanying music video, directed by David LaChapelle will follow in the coming weeks. Check out a short snippet of “Almost Home” below.
What do you think? I’m reserving judgement til I hear the entire track. It’s hard to get a handle on the track after hearing only a snippet from the middle. Agree? Sound off below.

You say Glitter flopped, for a soundtrack, to a motion picture, it did quite well. Did the album sell like one of Carey’s studio albums? of course not, but it was a soundtrack to a film.. Just to toss that out there. x0x0.

Why can’t they have a song that sounds like something you’d actually hear from the movie?

From what I hear, it sounds pretty good. Certainly glad there seem to be no hip hop elements in it. ;-)
