With February wrapping up this weekend and new movies coming out starting this Friday, March 1 (my birthday!), I figured it was time to share five of my recommendations for films to check out this March. Of course there are many new films opening in theatres, these are just the five that I’ve narrowed it down to based on my personal preferences combined with the buzz surrounding the films.

Contrary to my five picks for February, there isn’t even one comedy in my list for March as they all fall into at least one of the action / adventure / sci-fi / thriller categories. Two of the films star James Franco – it’s a big year for him.

Spring Breakers

Who’s In It: Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, James Franco, Rachel Korine
What It’s About: Four college girls who land in jail after robbing a restaurant in order to fund their spring break vacation find themselves bailed out by a drug and arms dealer who wants them to do some dirty work.

Olympus Has Fallen

What It’s About: Disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped inside the White House in the wake of a terrorist attack; using his inside knowledge, Banning works with national security to rescue the President from his kidnappers.

The Host

Who’s In It: Saoirse Ronan, Diane Kruger | William Hurt
What It’s About: A parasitic alien soul is injected into the body of Melanie Stryder. Instead of carrying out her race’s mission of taking over the Earth, “Wanda” (as she comes to be called) forms a bond with her host and sets out to aid other free humans.
