Fashion: Trend Alert! The Man Skirt

manskirt

Mens’ fashion continuously evolves and this new trend has got me a little concerned. I’m talking skirts for men. We’ve seen designers send male models down the runway in various styles of skirts but they haven’t really stuck and bled into the mainstream up until designer Marc Jacobs started wearing them did the man skirt get enough attention and H&M will be carrying them as part of their Spring 2010 collection.

Although men have worn skirts as part of their national attire such as the Scottish kilts & Sarongs in South East Asia, the Western culture has been resistant to the skirt because it is perceived as effeminate. The man skirt has to be worn a very specific way and only very few guys can actually pull it off. A graphic tee, with a blazer and the skirt should be finished off with a tough utility type boot to prevent the look from turning into DRAG.

The only good thing that could come of this trend is more content for TAKETHATOFF! LOL

Would you wear a man skirt? Do you think this trend will last or even stick?

I only wear man-skirts when I paint half my face blue, carry a claymore, and decide to free my country. But that only happens once and a while.

A skirt on a guy is just another clothes choice and after opening your mind, you will find it quite comfortable. Biggest problem with a guy wearing a skirt is peer pressure and being in-secure with himself.

Those who stand against men in kilts/skirts stand against America and the Constitution. They are anti – American.

Definitely, I’m wearing a “manskirt” right now. I own 1 pair of shorts, 1 pair of long pants, 31 assorted skirted garments. I’ve been wearing “manskirts” since 1971 when I was in a diving documentary movie called “Deadly Fathoms” filmed in the South Pacific and Marshall Islands in the Central-South Pacific. In the 3 main island groups I visited, The Marshalls, Tongan, and Fiji Islands the “menswear” was nearly completely skirted garments. In Fiji the garment is known as a Sulu and is dark blue for males and is wrapped right to left twice around and tucked in at the top right to form a “wrap skirt” that can be worn long for regular wear, short for climbing trees, or shorter for swimming. Most men’s wrap skirts of all the islands are wrapped approx. the same way. The only real difference between the women’s outfits and men’s outfits is the women’s rig has a top section which the men don’t need. At night the men just add a shirt of some kind to keep off the chill.

  • One other thing. I am NOT anything but STRAIGHT. I believe that when most men are no longer straight, we will start to pass from existance. No Man/Woman interaction, no children. No children/no future for Humans as a species. ๐Ÿ™

A few things I’d like to know:

First, while it seems that women are becoming more supportive of men in skirts, does that mean that more are saying “to each his own,” or do more find it attractive?

Second, as I live in America, how would American women my age (I’m 32), in terms of support for men in skirts, compare to women 20 years old and, going the other way, females in their 70s?

  • Just to make things clear. I also, am pure STRAIGHT…not even confused. Again, as usual, I am skirted now. ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

“I believe that when most men are no longer straight, we will start to pass from existance. No Man/Woman interaction, no children. No children/no future for Humans as a species. :(”

Yeah, because bi-men never sleeps with women. Ever!
And there isn’t anything called insemination.
Also, the only interaction men and women have is creating children, never talking etc.
And the world isn’t overcrowded at all with its human population of 7 billion nor losing countless to starvation.

    *sarcasm off*
