Mens’ fashion continuously evolves and this new trend has got me a little concerned. I’m talking skirts for men. We’ve seen designers send male models down the runway in various styles of skirts but they haven’t really stuck and bled into the mainstream up until designer Marc Jacobs started wearing them did the man skirt get enough attention and H&M will be carrying them as part of their Spring 2010 collection.
Although men have worn skirts as part of their national attire such as the Scottish kilts & Sarongs in South East Asia, the Western culture has been resistant to the skirt because it is perceived as effeminate. The man skirt has to be worn a very specific way and only very few guys can actually pull it off. A graphic tee, with a blazer and the skirt should be finished off with a tough utility type boot to prevent the look from turning into DRAG.
The only good thing that could come of this trend is more content for TAKETHATOFF! LOL
Would you wear a man skirt? Do you think this trend will last or even stick?
