Two different versions of the Man of Steel trailer have come out this weekend, getting fans excited about the epic Zack Snyder / Christopher Nolan film that hits theatres in 2013. The two trailers are narrated by the two different father figures in Clark’s life. The first is narrated by his Kryptonian biological father Jor-El (Russell Crowe) and the second by the Kansas farmer and adoptive dad Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner.) The narrations differ quite a bit showing to different points of view on Clark’s future. One is based on fate, the other is based on choice.
In the first trailer, Jor-El seems certain about who Clark will become. “You will give the people an ideal to strive towards. They’ll race behind you, they will stumble. They will fall. … But in time, they will join you in the sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders.”
In the second trailer, Pa Kent narrates and explains to Clark how he will have to make a choice about his power one day – whether he’ll use it for good or for bad. Makes total sense when you think about it. Often times when people have great power, they abuse it and use it more for bad than good. He says, “One day, you’re gonna have to make a choice. You have decide what kind of man you want to grow up to be. … Whoever that man is, good character or bad, is gonna change the world.” Watch both trailers below.
