Out of all the movies hitting theaters this summer, Man of Steel is the one I’m looking most forward to. Apparently, Entertainment Weekly is also. The publication picked Zack Snyder’s reboot to cover their annual Summer Movie Preview issue. As the cover tagline states, this “Superman gets all hot & modern.” Based on the footage they’ve seen, it’s going to be epic.
Based on footage EW has seen, the film (which was directed by Zack Snyder and shepherded by Christopher Nolan) has plenty of building-smashing, train-slinging, heat-vision-blasting battles to cut through the emotional heaviness. “You want to give the audience great spectacle. You want them to go to the movie, be eating their popcorn and be like, ‘Wow!’” says Man of Steel producer Charles Roven, who also worked on The Dark Knight trilogy. “But it’s just not good enough to give them the ‘Wow.’ You want them to be emotionally engaged. Because if you just have the ‘wow,’ ultimately you get bludgeoned by that and you stop caring.” -EW.com
Synder reveals to the magazine that his main focus was to humanize him and develop new flaws and vulnerabilities for the iconic superhero. The biggest reveal he makes is that there is no Krypotnite in his film. Yup, those glowing green space rocks that debilitate Superman won’t make an appearance.
