Plans for a fourth Max Max film have long been in the works but the project spent years in development hell. Eventually, Mel Gibson lost interest and walked away forever. Three decades later, a new installment is finally here. Substitute Tom Hardy for Gibson and Namibia as the new backdrop instead of New South Wales and we have Mad Max: Fury Road.
An apocalyptic story set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and almost everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life. Within this world exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order. There’s Max (Tom Hardy), a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos. And Furiosa (Charlize Theron), a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland.
Joining Hardy and a bald Theron are Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. George Miller who’s directed all the previous Mad Max films returns to the post-apocalyptic franchise.
Mad Max: Fury Road rides into theaters on May 15, 2015. If the action-packed footage doesn’t lure you to watch it opening weekend, rumors have it that the first trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to debut before the film. How’s that for an incentive.
