Cue up another Academy Award nomination in her future. Cate Blanchett usually snags one for playing real characters. With the 48-year-old Aussie playing the iconic Lucille Ball, Oscar glory almost seems certain.
Blanchett is attached to star as the television pioneer in Lucy and Desi. The biopic, written by Aaron Sorkin, has been acquired by Amazon Studios. According to Deadline, the project will tell “the tempestuous love/business relationship between Desi Arnaz and Ball, whose production company Desilu launched such series as Star Trek.” Both Cate and Aaron have been attached to this vehicle for two years now.
No one has been signed to play Desi yet, but the publication reports the hunt for a big star is on with names like Javier Bardem in the mix to play the Cuban performer.
The biopic has the blessing of Desi and Lucille’s children, Lucie Luckinbill and Desi Arnaz Jr. They’ll be involved in the project and have authorized the usage of memoirs written by both their parents.
