At first glance, it looks like a classic John Hughes teen flick. The major difference with this contemporary take on the genre is the fact the lead character is gay.
Love, Simon is a funny and heartfelt coming-of-age story about the thrilling ride of finding yourself and falling in love. It’s based on the best-selling young adult novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. It’s produced by the same studio as The Fault In Our Stars. Riverdale and Arrow maestro Greg Berlanti directed the flick.
Everyone deserves a great love story. But for seventeen-year old Simon Spier it’s a little more complicated: he’s yet to tell his family or friends he’s gay and he doesn’t actually know the identity of the anonymous classmate he’s fallen for online. Resolving both issues proves hilarious, terrifying and life-changing.
Nick Robinson plays the lead character, Simon. He’s joined by Katherine Langford, Alexandra Shipp, Tony Hale, Jennifer Garner and Josh Duhamel. Check out the full-length trailer below.
