The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center held its annual event at the Beverly Hilton, where the Golden Globe Awards take place. This year’s star-studded event: “An Evening with Women: Celebrating Art, Music & Equality,” honoured lesbians and bisexual women who have made significant contributions to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. The night included two performances by the Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Christina Aguilera and concluded with dancing, spun by celebrity DJ Samantha Ronson. You’ve hopefully read Adam’s play-by-play of our red carpet antics at the fundraiser. Now check out the amazing things and services the largest LGBT organization in the United States has to offer.

Since 1971, the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center has been building the health, advocating for the rights, and enriching the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. They provide a wide array of services which include: HIV/AIDS care and medications for those most in need; housing, food, clothing and support for homeless LGBT youth; low-cost counseling and addiction-recovery services; essential services for LGBT-parented families and seniors; legal services; health education and HIV prevention program; transgender services; cultural arts program and much more.

The mission of the center is to:

  • EMPOWER people to lead full and rewarding lives.
  • HEAL the damage caused by discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
  • ADVOCATE full access and equality for all people regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity.
  • LEAD through example by living our values, sharing our expertise, and celebrating the full diversity.

We had the honour of talking to one of the event board members, Jane Lynch, and Thomas- a communications manager for the center. Both stated that this year’s event was much bigger than previous years and were very impressed by the celebrity support for this worthwhile cause that helps so many in the LGBT community. Congratulations to the organizers for providing such a fantastic and successful night.
