Every once in a while you hear a song and you think WTF. Then you hear it a few more times and you’re like this song is FRIGGIN AWESOME. That’s exactly what happened to me when I first heard LMFAO’s “I’m In Miami Bitch“. You’ve probably heard the song on the radio, at the clubs or on YouTube and probably had a similar response. On our (Brian and I) recent road trip to California, we heard this song literally on the hour every hour on radio stations from Seattle, Portland, San Francisco to Vancouver. Recently, I had a wicked opportunity to talk to this electro-hop duo from Hollywood. My only regret was that I didn’t conduct the interview at a club with a Vodka / Red Bull in hand as I’m sure it would’ve been a hella good time.
LMFAO is comprised of two Hollywood DJs named Redfoo and his nephew Sky Blu. The two began tinkering with DJ equipment as a pastime and have since turned clowning around into an art and a business. With early remixes of Fergie’s Clumsy, Kanye West’s Love Lockdown and Katy Perry’s Hot N Cold garnering some attention, the duo then started to make original dance songs in their studio apartment. The outcome was “I’m in Miami Bitch” which they released on their MySpace space which lead them to a record deal with Interscope Records. The two then developed their signature look of wearing loud colors, glasses with no lenses and sporting their own self-designed t-shirts and created their own label and clothing line, Party Rock (http://lmfao.bigcartel.com/).
In the words of Redfoo, the programming brain behind the duo,
“We’re definitely not a band that’s shy. We love to hear ourselves talk. We want to be seen as much as possible. We want to be so big that we can’t even walk down the street.”

The boys are definitely not shy. Partying, girls, more partying and even more girls seem to be their mantra and a recurring theme in their music. Really though, it’s all part of an elaborate plan for world domination which includes music, acting, comedy and their clothing line.
Redfoo and Sky Blu have recently been asked by Lady Gaga and Chris Cornell for upcoming single remixes and are fielding various requests from major artists in the pop and hip hop world. Having done remixes for the aforementioned artists and including the Black Eyed Peas, I asked LMFAO who their dream collaborations would be. They mentioned that Rick James and Michael Jackson (interview took place before MJ’s passing) would be tops on their list.
Their debut album, Party Rock, is supposed to play like a classic party mix tape. With catchy song titles like Lil Hipster Girl, I Am Not A Whore, and Leaving U 4 The Groove, the album is meant to take you away and escape to a world of fun, dance, sex and craziness. The inspiration for their songs are often based off of simple catch phrases that they’ll hear or say. In fact, “I’m Not a Whore” was in retaliation to girls who would grab their butt at the clubs. Basically they theorized that when girls would come up to them and grab their asses, the boys used to say “Thank You” and found the conversation would end there. When they started to reply with “I’m Not a Whore”, they found the ladies responded much better to the ‘bad boy’ treatment. Silly girls. lol.

Since the ladies are a main influence in their music, it was only natural for me to ask them who their celebrity crushes were. They replied with the obviously-hot-can-turn-a-gay-man-straight Megan Fox and the over-exposed-can-turn-a-gay-man-into-gayer-man Paris Hilton. Megan Fox I can totally understand but Paris Hilton… I’m not sure about that choice boys. It would take a lot of shots for me to hit that. LOL Speaking of alcohol, the duo listed Vodka Cran, Patron Shots, Corona’s and Vodka Red Bulls as their drink(s) of choice. Definitely dudes after my own heart.
Be sure to check out their debut album, Party Rock and you’ll soon discover their key mission is to live tonight like there’s no tomorrow.
