After over 25 years away, minus an uncredited voice presence in Terminator Salvation, Linda Hamilton is reprising her iconic role in a potential Terminator reboot. James Cameron made the announcement at a private event celebrating the 33-year-old franchise.
“As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then, it’s going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she’s become return,” Cameron said of his ex-wife’s return to the beloved franchise. He added, “There are 50-year-old, 60-year-old guys out there killing bad guys, but there isn’t an example of that for women.”
Cameron will do double duty on the reboot, writing the script and producing it. Tim Miller (Deadpool) is on board to direct the movie. Reportedly, the potential film will be a sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day. If it does well at the box office, it could kick-start a trilogy.
Since the 1991 blockbuster sequel, three Terminator films have been produced all without Cameron or Hamilton’s involvement. Arnold Schwarzenegger, however, has appeared in all the films. Fingers crossed he sticks around for the potential reboot.
