Get Your First Look At Lifetime’s “Steel Magnolias” All-Black Remake

Anyone in the mood for some armadillo cake? Lifetime just released the first trailer for its remake of the classic “Steel Magnolias“. When the network first announced they were giving the original 1989 chick flick a contemporary update with a twist, fans thought it was unnecessary. I agree. The film stands the test of time and still as enjoyable today as it was back then. That said, I was curious to see what changes Lifetime had in store for their version.

Obviously, the biggest change is the all-black cast. Subbing in for Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis and Julia Roberts were Queen Latifah (M’Lynn), Jill Scott (Truvy), Alfre Woodard (Ouiser), Adepero Oduye (Annelle), Phylicia Rashad (Clairee) and Condola Rashad (Shelby). But other than that, based on the trailer, the Lifetime version looks like a carbon copy of the original with exception to a Beyonce reference. I wonder if this cast will have the same chemistry and produce another tearjerker. Watch the clip below.

What do you think? Will you check out Lifetime’s remake? Who was your favorite “magnolia” from the original? Sound off below.
