Lethal Weapon, featuring Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans taking over from Mel Gibson and Danny Glover respectively, has been given an early Season 2 renewal from the network. Though it premiered strongly, the network only picked up five additional episodes, four short of a full-season order. The partial pickup raised a red flag but it appears it was all much ado about nothing.
“Lethal Weapon continues to fire on all cylinders,” said Fox Entertainment president David Madden. “Every week, it delivers a big, fun roller-coaster ride, but also remains touchingly human and genuinely emotional, and that’s due to the chemistry that’s developed not only between Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford, but the entire cast.”
The drama averages a 1.6 rating in adults 18-49 and 6.63 million viewers the night it airs, making it the network’s No. 2 drama this season, not including 24: Legacy which received a post-Super Bowl bump. When L+7 numbers are factored in, the numbers rise to 2.5 in adults 18-49 and 9.38 million viewers. FOX says, viewers jump to 11 million when all platforms are factored in.
Lethal Weapon joins the list of other FOX shows to receive early renewals. Lucifer, The Mick and Empire have all received the go-ahead to return next season. Do you watch the action series? I do but have six episodes backed up on my DVR. I’m debating breaking up with the show. Weigh in below.
