Okay, I know, I am light-years behind on writing this article and discussing this AMAZING group of dancers who have seemingly appeared out of nowhere and are literally showing the world what it means to be a dancer, one step at a time.
In this past season of So You Think You Can Dance US this amazing troop of men and women took to the stage in one of the elimination shows that Kevin touched on in one of his articles. The performance in that show blew my mind and I found myself thanking the universe for PVR so I could watch the routine over and over again, endlessly rewinding to find a new step I hadn’t seen in my previous viewings. The music combined with the artistry of each style of dance was literally perfection on the stage.
Performed to Yellow by the Vitamin String Quartet (now a regular on my iTunes Genius Playlist), the SYTYCD video I’m referring to…
Then again, just days ago this group took to an even larger stage to captivate a worldwide audience at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards. Performing to each of the nominated ‘Best Original Score’ pieces, ebbing and flowing through each of the five tracts and introduced by Jennifer Lopez and Sam Worthington, again it was if time stopped and all that mattered was the harmony of dance.
Everything these people do appears to turn to gold, starting from their very first introductory footage that had the entire dance world, and the planet in general wondering what this truly was all about. For some of The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers’ (LXD) older footage and intro clips hop over to YouTube when you have some time and check it out, or check out their official website.
Although the LXD is relatively secretive with their membership, if you take a close look at the Oscar performance you’ll see some of the best dancers ever to grace the So You Think You Can Dance stage including season six winner Russell, season five top four finalist Kayla and the infamous Travis Wall from season two and now a permanent choreographer with the show, among others!
These people are truly inspirations and literally make me want to attend every dance class possible to rise to their level of expertise. Kudos.
