With her breakout role in Orange Is The New Black, Laverne Cox became the first openly transgender person to be nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in an acting category. The 30-year-old actress was also the first openly transgender person to appear on the cover of TIME magazine. Cox continues to pave the way for the transgender community and could make history with her new gig.
Cox has just been cast in a new CBS legal drama titled Doubt. She’ll l play Cameron Wirth, an ivy-league educated lawyer who is “as competitive as she is compassionate.” Because she’s experienced injustice first hand, she will “fight all the harder for her clients.”
If her pilot gets picked up for the 2015-2016 season, it will mark the first leading role for a transgender in broadcast television history. You go guuurrrrl!!! Grey’s Anatomy alums Tony Phelan and Joan Rater will pen the script for the new TV project.
