According to Page Six, the answer is yes. Their sources reveal, Lana Del Rey ironically penned “Cola” after rebuffing advances Harvey Weinstein made towards her. “She rebuffed him, she had a boyfriend,” the publication states.
“I got sweet taste for men who’re older / It’s always been so it’s no surprise / Harvey’s in the sky with diamonds / And it’s making me crazy / All he wants to do is party with his pretty baby.”
However, when the now-disgraced producer heard the lyrics, he insisted changes be made. “Harvey went bananas and insisted Del Rey change the lyrics, which she did, removing Harvey’s name, so the line now goes, “Ah he’s in the sky with diamonds and he’s making me crazy.”
“Cola” first appeared on her extended play, Paradise. It was then included on the reissue of her debut studio album, Born to Die: The Paradise Edition.
Weinstein later got Del Rey to do a song for his 2014 movie, Big Eyes. Revisit “Cola” below and weigh in afterward below.
