Not only is A Star Is Born wreaking havoc at the box office ($94 million domestic after two weeks), but its accompanying album is as well. The soundtrack debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, giving Lady Gaga her fifth chart-topper and Bradley Cooper his first. Speaking of the duo, their standout ballad cracks the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Congrats all the way around.
A Star Is Born soundtrack tops the album charts by moving 231,000 equivalent album units, 162,000 were in traditional album sales. It’s the best week for a soundtrack in more than three-and-a-half years since the Fifty Shades of Grey album debuted at No. 2 with 258,000 units.
As previously mentioned, the LP is Gaga’s fifth album to top the chart, following Joanne (in 2016), Cheek to Cheek, her collaboration with Tony Bennett (2014), ARTPOP (2013) and Born This Way (2011). As of right now, Gaga holds the record for the most NO. 1 albums this decade. Taylor Swift is close behind with four leaders in the ’10s.
Over on the singles chart, “Shallow” skyrockets from No. 28 to No. 5. It’s Cooper’s first Hot 100 Top 10 hit while being Gaga’s 15th of her career. The last time she cracked the Top 10 was with “Million Reasons” back in February 2017. Check out the rest of this week’s Top 10 below.
