This weekend, The Help took it’s third “helping” of being at the top of the box office. The film added $14.2 million to it’s total, bringing it to $118.6 million. Overall though, it was a pretty weak weekend at the box office in terms of bringing in big numbers. I’m guessing a lot of people were on a long weekend getaway or a camping trip, getting their last taste of summer before heading into the fall. Also, there are just a lot of films out in wide releases in theatres right now, so I think it’s just spread a little too thin. That being said, overall August 2011 did better than August 2010, coming in at $894 million, which is up two percent over last August.
The Debt, starring Sam Worthington and Helen Mirren, opened this weekend and took the number two spot with just under $10 million. Also opening this weekend was Apollo 18 (which I really want to see) and Shark Night 3D. Apollo 18 brought in just under $9 million and didn’t get that great of reviews. Shark Night 3D was pretty much neck and neck with Apollo 18, and as for reviews, I think the name of the film says it all. Did you watch any of these films this weekend?
