Kim Cattrall Thinks Samantha Jones Should Undergo A Diversity Recast For ‘SATC 3,’ Do You Agree?

Normally, I’m not a fan of recasting a beloved character but this one has the blessing of the original actress. So if it’s okay by her, it should be with fans, no?

By now, you’ve heard that Kim Cattrall is the single hold out for making Sex And The City 3 happen. It’s been a nasty war of words from both sides. Cattrall has called her relationship with her SATC castmates as “toxic,” while the other side has painted the 61-year-old actress as difficult and demanding. It’s clear that all hope of Kim changing her mind is lost. So why not recast the iconic role as she suggests.

“It’s a great part. I played it past the finish line and then some, and I loved it,” she said in the interview with Piers Morgan. “Another actress should play it — maybe they could make it an African-American Samantha Jones or a Hispanic Samantha Jones.”

The show was definitely criticized for being too white, so this seems like a decent alternative. Even uber producer Ryan Murphy thinks recasting is a good idea.

“Look, I would be very devastated if I created something cultural like that and 95% of the team said, ‘Let’s do it,’ but there was a hold on it,” Murphy said at The New Yorker Festival weeks ago. “I don’t blame Kim Cattrall, though.”

Do you think the part should be recast? Weigh in below.

During the interview with Morgan, Cattrall also dished that she was never friends with her former co-stars. Watch the shade below.

Kim Cattrall Says She’s ‘Never’ Been Friends With ‘Sex and the City’ Co-Stars

I think the role may be recast but with an actress who resembles Kim Cattral in terms of the character’s mannerisms. I’m not being racist here but, if your have the other original girls along with an African American Samantha Jones beside them, the continuity of the story is suddenly lost. That’s why I found it hard to relate to the new Bosley on that Charlie’s Angel’s sequel. Just my two cents.
