Her comeback is in full swing. Just days after releasing the powerful ballad “Praying,” Kesha debuts another new song. Both will appear on her album, Rainbow, the singer’s first LP since Warrior released back in 2012. Her Animals must be in heaven.
The 30-year-old singer switches gears and goes uptempo on her latest, “Woman.” The funky track, with its country vibe, is an anthem that has Kesha declaring she’s a “motherf—ing woman” throughout the chorus. She laments that she’s just looking to have fun with her friends and doesn’t need a man holding her too tight. Amen sista. She revealed to Rolling Stone the inspiration behind the track.
“I have always been a feminist, but for much of my life I felt like a little girl trying to figure things out,” she wrote. “In the past few years, I have felt like a woman more than ever. I just feel the strength and awesomeness and power of being female. We hold the key to humanity. We decide if we populate the Earth, and if so, with whom. We could just decide not to have any more kids and the human race would be over. That is power. I just really f—ing love being a woman and I wanted an anthem for anyone else who wants to yell about being self-sufficient and strong. (Yes, men, this song can be for you too.)” She continued: “It was such a beautiful experience to write such a strong female empowerment song with two men, Drew Pearson and Stephen Wrabel, because it reinforces how supportive men can be of women AND feminism.”
Watch the “Woman” music video below. It’s fantastic. I especially love the infectious horns provided by The Dap-Kings Horns. I can’t wait to hear what else Kesha has in store for us on her upcoming LP. August 11 can’t come here soon enough. Imagine Dr. Luke’s reaction if Rainbow, which he’s not involved with, becomes her biggest album. Success is the sweetest revenge they say.
