On The Basis Of Sex follows a young Ruth Bader Ginsburg as she teams with her husband Marty to bring a groundbreaking case before the U.S. Supreme Court in hopes of overturning a century of sex discrimination. Felicity Jones plays the future Supreme Court judge while Armie Hammer steps in to portray Martin D. Ginsburg. It arrives in theaters on December 25, 2018.
To deliver the anthem for the biographical drama, Kesha was enlisted. The 31-year-old singer belts out for equal rights on the acoustic balled titled “Here Comes The Change.” A perfect pairing if you ask me. Kesha, in her own right, has seen her fair share of legal battles. The track features a harmonica riff which is a nice touch that harkens back to protest music from the 1960s.
“I was inspired. It was amazing to see Ginsburg’s story of leading a campaign that successfully changed laws that discriminated against Americans purely on the basis of their sex, as the film title suggests,” Kesha wrote on Refinery29. “In watching the film I was struck by how much Ginsburg was able to accomplish in her life, and at the same time, how much more there is to do in the fight for equality for all people. It reminded me of — and strengthened — my belief that any single person can make lasting change, starting with one small action. I wanted to do what I could to pay tribute to Ginsburg, who has spent a lifetime fighting tirelessly for equality, with no signs of slowing down. I wanted to make my voice heard, too.”
