This post was originally intended to discuss Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger” tour coming to a close, but after watching “American Idol’s” results show on Thursday I decided to amend my original idea. With Jessica Sanchez almost receiving the boot, it reminded me of all the other Idol contestants who were gone too soon. From Jennifer Hudson, Pia Toscano, Trenyce, etc… some were eliminated way ahead of their time. Most notably, Miss Tamyra Gray.

This former beauty queen was one of my favorites to win the inaugural season of Idol. Sadly, both Nikki McKibbin and Justin Guarini outlasted her, giving us the show’s first shocking boot. All these years, I could only imagine what a finale with Kelly Clarkson and Gray would’ve sounded like. These two divas could’ve really brought down the house. Thankfully, to a couple of special appearances on Kelly’s tour, I no longer have to imagine it. Tamyra joined Clarkson for Whitney Houston’s “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” and “When You Believe“. The duet on the latter was amazing and embedded it below for your viewing pleasure.

As mentioned earlier, I was originally going to just highlight all my favorite Kelly Clarkson covers from her recent tour. During a segment for each stop, Clarkson performed a song cover based on fan requests. I’ve already shared her previous covers of both Madonna and Shania Twain, but that was just the tip of the iceberg. The “Since U Been Gone” singer has covered everyone from Coldplay, Radiohead, Pink, Etta James, Tracy Chapman and even Britney Spears during her fan appreciation segment. I’ve gone through a whole whack of them on YouTube and picked my favorites. Enjoy them. Listening to all the covers reminds me of Kelly’s time on the Idol stage. Oh, memories…
