Turns out those rumors about Kelly Clarkson joining ABC’s rebooted American Idol were greatly exaggerated. The 35-year-old original Idol winner is joining another singing competition. She’ll sit alongside Blake Shelton and Adam Levine for The Voice Season 14. She previously served as a mentor to Blake’s team on the show’s second season.
“I’m so excited to join The Voice at NBC,” Clarkson says in a press release. “We’ve gone back and forth about a role as a coach for years, but the timing hasn’t been right until now. I have always loved appearing on the show as an adviser or performer and established an amazing relationship with the network during my Christmas special. I can’t wait to turn my chair and see the faces of up-and-coming artists and provide them with the help and support they’ve needed to break into the industry. Watch out Shelton, I’m comin’ to win!!”
This is a major scoop for The Voice. It really does throw a wrench in ABC’s rumored plans to recruit the OG Idol winner. A dollar short and a day late for the alphabet network.
The news of Clarkson’s addition comes a day after Jennifer Hudson was announced as a Season 13 judge with Miley Cyrus, Shelton and Levine. A fourth judge for Season 14 hasn’t been named yet, but please let it be J-Hud. I’d love to see two Idol alums taking on Blake and Adam. Better yet, enlist Adam Lambert for S14. I.WOULD.DIE!!!
