‘Love, Simon’ Actor Keiynan Lonsdale Debuts Queer Anthem ‘Kiss The Boy’

His acting credits include Allegiant, The Flash and Legends Of Tomorrow, but it’s Love, Simon that’s raising the profile of Keiynan Lonsdale. The 26-year-old Aussie is adorable in the LGBT coming-of-age teen movie. His role in the film actually inspired his new single,”Kiss The Boy,” which is an unapologetic queer anthem.

“The teaser for Love, Simon had dropped on YouTube and then for some reason, I don’t know why, the song ‘Kiss the Girl‘ from The Little Mermaid popped up on my feed,” Lonsdale explained to Billboard. “I was like, ‘Oh, that’s so funny. I wonder if I can do a cover of that song, but change it to about a boy?’ It didn’t work, but I was thinking about the Love, Simon trailer and I was really happy. Eventually, I got the hook, ‘If you wanna kiss the boy/ Then you better kiss the boy right now.'”

Lonsdale doesn’t ascribe to a specific label in terms of his sexuality, but he did come as bisexual on Instagram last year. “Nothing better than happy tears. The love is beyond measurable, thank you. Don’t forget to give that same love back to yourselves x,” he tweeted after receiving major support from his fans.

Check out the “Kiss The Boy” lyric clip below. It’ll be included on his upcoming album, which will also feature songs he wrote years ago.
