Ever since it was announced Katie Couric’s new daytime show wouldn’t be premiering til Fall 2012, many wondered what ABC would do with their new high-priced show pony. By having a talent like Katie on their roster, ABC’s news division would be a fool if they didn’t utilize her charisma and celebrity status to their benefit.
Since jumping ship from CBS’ Evening News anchor desk, Katie has only appeared so far as a guest host on “The View“. She’s also been tapped to contribute to the network’s coverage of the 10th anniversary of 9/11 in a few days. Next week will also mark Katie’s first official interviewing assignment for the network. It will air as a “Nightline” special which will air on Tuesday. Any guesses on who gets to pop Couric’s cherry on ABC? Find out below.
It’s none other than Carrie Bradshaw herself, Sarah Jessica Parker. The former SATC star will discuss her career, family, and the pitfalls of fame. Obviously, she’ll also use this opportunity to pimp out her new film “I Don’t Know How She Does It” which opens on September 16. Side note, how awful does that movie look? It makes Parker’s other flop “Did You Hear About The Morgans?” look like “The King’s Speech”. Here’s an excerpt from Katie’s interview:
“I think the things that are more painful to me are not the intrusion of paparazzi, it’s the lack of civility that I find more intimidating and far more painful an experience,” she tells Couric. “It’s the lack of critical thinking. It’s the endless snarky, mean way we talk about each other, we approach each other. The anonymity of being cruel, the delight in tearing people down. The tabloid era that we find ourselves in is a cultural boneyard, and that is painful to me.”
While Katie is a very capable reporter, she shines brightest when doing fluff pieces. That’s why she became so popular during her “Today Show” years. I think it was a smart choice to start off with an interview with SJP. Delivering hard-hitting news during her CBS tenure definitely didn’t compliment her bubbly personality. Hopefully her upcoming daytime talk show, “Katie“, will find a happy medium where her lighthearted side and serious one can shine.
