Kathy Griffin’s Celebrity Run-Ins: My A–Z Index chronicles her encounters with more than 125 stars. There is, however, one particular celebrity, Kathy Griffin doesn’t specifically name. With her description, it doesn’t exactly take a rocket scientist to figure out who the 56-year-old Emmy winner is referring to.
“I’m almost positive a certain beloved daytime talk show host once had me kicked out of a backstage dressing room at the Emmy Awards,” writes the comedian. “I can’t prove it, but this person, who has short blonde hair, has a mean streak that all of Hollywood knows about.”
Curious to know the reason behind the beef between these funny ladies. “Ellen did a monologue about how mean I am,” Griffin tells Us Weekly about her 2007 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “I was in the dressing room like, ’S–t! You’re another woman comic, c’mon!’”
Earlier that year in March, DeGeneres threw shade at Griffin in an interview with W. “I know she had a big thing about wanting to be on the show, and we didn’t book her,” she said. “She did a whole thing that I banned her from the show. I didn’t ban her from the show, because first you have to be on the show to be banned.”
Griffin goes on to say that even though there’s some bad blood, she has mad respect for the daytime host. “How could I not? Go, girl!” she adds. “I’m just saying that we would all be better served if we all just really be there for each other the way the dudes are. When you think about the guys who are in my age group, or even guys I started out with, like Kevin James and Ray Romano. They all help each other and hook each other up.”
Definitely pick up Griffin’s new book for more tea. She dishes about plenty more celebrities. Check out this zinger about her experience co-hosting an event with Ashton Kutcher. “It was bizarre and rude and made me feel as if he thought I was beneath him, someone not worth talking to in the slightest.” Apparently, Kutcher never said a word to her.
