To say Kate Winslet leads a charmed life is putting it mildly. Not only is she strikingly beautiful, but she’s extremely talented as well. At age 31 she was the youngest actress to accrue five Academy Award nominations. Number six proved lucky when she finally nabbed the Oscar for Best Actress in The Reader. She’s even co-starred with Leonardo DiCaprio not once, but twice. Speaking of Leonardo…
Reportedly, her Titanic co-star walked her down the aisle for her recent wedding to Ned Rocknroll. Hopefully, marriage number three will be it. Winslet was previously married to Jim Threapleton (1998-2001) and Sam Mendes (2003-2010). To congratulate the happy couple, one particular tycoon gave a very unique wedding gift. Find out below who, what and why they gave Winslet and Rocknroll this present.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Sir Richard Branson gifted the actress a ticket on his Virgin Galactic shuttle. The trip is worth an estimated $200,000. So why did the Virgin mogul bestow this generous gift to Winslet? There are two reasons. One, Kate’s new husband Ned Rocknroll is Branson’s nephew. Secondly, and probably the real reason, Branson is thankful to Kate for saving his mother’s life.
Back in August 2011, the 37-year-old actress rescued Branson’s 90-year-old mother from a burning house at 4am. Reportedly, the residence in the British Virgin Islands was struck by lightning during a tropical storm. WOW. Now you can add superhero to Winslet long list of accomplishments. And pretty soon, astronaut ;)
Curious to know when Kate will go intergalactic? Well, Branson hopes to start flights next year. Passengers will have “a brief moment of quiet before a wave of unimaginable but controlled power surges” during the journey. They will also experience weightlessness and see the Earth’s curve.
Would you pay $200,000 to take a trip on Branson’s shuttle? Are you a fan of Kate Winslet? If so, what’s your favorite film? Sound off below.
