Ever heard the old adage “If you want something done right, do it yourself”. American Idol judge, Kara DioGuardi, definitely has. Over the weekend, DioGuardi posted her own studio version of this year’s American Idol champion song, “No Boundaries” on YouTube- a song which she wrote specifically for the Idol winner. The pre-chosen song Idol winners are forced to sing and release as their first single are often maligned by the public but for some reason “No Boundaries” unleashed a wrath that previous songs never saw. Sure “A Moment Like This” (Clarkson), “Inside Your Heaven” (Underwood) and “This Is My Now” (Sparks) had their fare share of haters but when “No Boundaries” was sung at this year’s finale, fans of the show were petitioning to end the practice of finding a coronation song for the winner. Even this year’s reigning winner, Kris Allen, wasn’t a fan. In fact, he dropped “No Boundaries” from his live performance on the Idol tour only two weeks in. He said, it was slowing down the momentum of the show. Ouch, that’s gotta hurt.
Surprisingly the reception for Kara’s version is garnering positive response and giving the song new life. Maybe all the song needed was a female voice behind it. Who knows? Here are some of the comments people have been leaving on YouTube:
“Love this so much …her voice is beautiful. No boundaries is? my fave song now”
“I? loved it. She is a fighter. Live how hard she works.”
“Surprisingly, I like this better than both Adam and Kris’ versions!”
“Wow, this is amazing. Suddenly I don’t hate this song as much anymore,”
“Yeah it sounds better with a woman singing”
So far there is no information on whether this version will be made available for purchase. If it catches on, Kara might’ve unknowingly found herself a hit without even trying. Admittedly, I too like it better than both Lambert and Allen’s version but that’s not saying much as I’m more likely inclined to like female singers more. Have a listen and let me know what you think.
