Have you listened to Justin Timberlake’s “Suit & Tie”? Do you like it? My friends are split on it. Some were hoping for a club banger track in the vein of Britney Spears, while others welcomed the R&B-influenced track. As Nic said, “Britney follows trends, while Justin creates them.” LOL.
Personally, I love the verses and the chorus, but could do without the rap interlude by Jay-Z. Anticipation for Timberlake’s comeback was high enough that he didn’t need special guests to generate buzz. That said, overall I think it’s a solid track. It seems most people agree with me. JT is headed to a personal best by the time first week sales are tabulated. Find out exactly how much below.
Label sources predict “Suit & Tie” should sell over 300,000 units. Justin’s previous best was “SexyBack” back in 2006 with just 250,000. “Suit & Tie” is only the seventh song to sell over 300,000 units its first week. The current title holder is Taylor Swift who sold a whopping 623,000 downloads during its debut. Given that there wasn’t weeks of heavy promotion for its release, JT’s number is very impressive. If radio airplay increases, Timberlake’s latest could challenge for the top of Billboard’s Hot 100 which has been occupied by Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out of Heaven” for several weeks. If Justin reaches pole position, it’ll become his sixth chart-topper.
Now that you’ve had a few days to listen to “Suit & Tie,” do you think it’s a worthy comeback? Is it too much like his older sound? Were you hoping for an electro-pop dance track? Sound off below.

Britney follows trends? Your friend has got to be kidding…
Jody Rosen called her “pop music’s stealth avant-gardist”… JT’s song sounds dated, how is that a trend?

@BC They’re Billboard projected numbers and we’re not the only ones reporting them. Sorry you think we’re lame. Thanks for the visit.

Justin should just bang the charts so everyone could just shut up. He’s amazing!

This track is hot and sexy. Justin sings, Britney has never sung live in her life. It’s also nice to finally hear a singer without the fkg auto tone on the voice.

Love JT, but saying Brit follows tends is an epic fail. The little pop babies are always trying to copy what Brit has already perfected. I actually feel the same about Justin, Future Sex/Love Sounds was ahead of it’s time and is still amazing today! Not really feeling this new though…yet.

After such a long absence it’s concerning when your comeback single divides fans instead of being fully embraced. It’s not a strong first single for the record, it’s messy, it’s everything and the kitchen sink. Just like No Doubts record it feels like when they’ve worked on it for so many years fine tuning and adding layer after layer and dimensions to the song that what’s left is clumsy and clustered, sometimes it’s better to leave it good enough before you ruin it.

I cant believe only 7 songs have ever sold over 300,000 the first week. Do you know what the other 6 are? One is definitely Britney’s Hold It Against Me.

have people gone mental? This is the worst excuse for music I think I have ever heard. JT please just stick to acting at least your half way decent at that!

It’s so silly when people argue over music. It’s art, folks. It is what it is. Is it really necessary to hector and browbeat someone for liking something you don’t? JMC, I agree. I love JT and this first single should’ve been stronger. It’s not a horrible song, but I’m not gonna spend $1.29 for it at itunes. I’ll just wait and buy the album, because radio is gonna play the shit out this one.

Dear Donovan,
I hate it when people say “well, so and so did it, so I am going to do it too” or justify their actions because someone else did it.
Your reply is SUPER-LAME-OOOOOOOOOO

@ Rick, if Britney has never sung live, how did she make records?

Your statement is wrong. Billboard said only 7 songs have sold 300,000 the first week in the last year.
