Too bad Lisa Kudrow didn’t think of reaching out to Justin Bieber for her NBC genealogy series Who Do You Think You Are? Had she done so, she could’ve scored a jackpot with all the celebrities related to the “Boyfriend” singer. Ancestry.com began tracing Justin’s family lineage last year and discovered interesting family connections. As it turns out, the Biebs is distant cousins with three very famous Canadian entertainers- two are singers and one is an Oscar-nominated actor.

“The great thing about family history is that you never know what you’re going to find,” says Ancestry’s researcher Michelle Ercanback. “It was a very pleasant surprise.”

“Discoveries like this are rare, so the fact that some of the top entertainment industry stars are all related is especially fascinating,” says Lesley Anderson, Canadian genealogy expert with Ancestry.com. “There’s something special about discovering a shared connection. And to be able to go so far back in history while making that connection is one of the most satisfying aspects of family history research.”

Could you have ever imagined Ryan Gosling, Avril Lavigne and Celine Dion were related to Bieber and to each other. Sure, the connection is very distant, but related nonetheless. If Justin was never discovered on YouTube, he could’ve hit up his famous cousins to give him a break in the industry.

According to a family tree provided by the site (see below), Bieber and Gosling are 11th cousins once removed while Bieber and Lavigne are 12th cousins. They share common relatives Mathurin Roy and Marguerite Bire who were born in France in early 1600s and moved to Quebec after getting married in 1637. Bieber’s connection to Dion is a bit more distant. They are 10th cousins three times removed through Jacques Vezina and Marie Boisdon who were also immigrants from France.

Are you surprised by Ancestry.com’s findings? Who else thinks the four should hold a family reunion on an Oprah Winfrey special? I’m all for it. Out of the quartet, who would be the black sheep of the family? Sound off below. To learn more about their connections, head over to Ancestry.com.
