Disney doesn’t release Jungle Cruise starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt until July 24, 2020 but the studio held a test screening earlier this month. Thanks to that, we have details for that highly-anticipated coming out scene involving McGregor played by British actor Jack Whitehall.
According to TMZ, although McGregor makes it clear he’s not interested in women, the word “gay” is not mentioned nor is the pronoun of his love interest during his heart-to-heart with Frank (Johnson). As the publication writes, keep in mind, the film isn’t set in modern times.
“McGregor explains to “Frank” his family had tried arranging marriages for him with several women, but he didn’t wanna marry any of them — or any woman, for that matter. He also says Emily Blunt’s character, Lily (his sister in the movie), was the only one in his fam to accept him and support him regardless of the “person” he loves.”
TMZ reports the scene was well-received by the test audience. It’ll be interesting to see if Disney tweaks the scene to include the word “gay.” Either way, it’s a milestone since McGregor will be Disney’s first openly gay character.
