Jessica Chastain One Step Closer To Starring In ‘IT’ Sequel

While IT was wreaking havoc at the box office last fall, director Andy Muschietti expressed his interest in having Jessica Chastain star in the sequel. It wasn’t a completely far-fetched idea. Muschietti and Chastain previously worked together on the supernatural horror film, Mama.

“I don’t know, does she? [Laughs] Jessi is an amazing actress and very good friend and I would love her to play Beverly.” Muschietti told Variety last September, “Yeah, she loves the movie and it feels like the planets are aligned in that sense, but we still have to make that happen. There are a lot of ideas for the rest of the cast that I’m playing with, but it’s a bit too premature to say those names right now.”

According to Variety, Muschietti’s wish is one step closer to being granted. Chastain is currently in negotiations to star as the adult version of Beverly, played by Sophia Lillis in IT.

IT followed the first half of Stephen King’s eponymous novel, telling the story of a group of children who are terrorized by Pennywise the Clown (Bill Skarsgard) and forced to face their own demons to defeat him. The sequel will follow the last half of the novel, when the characters return to their hometown years later as adults to face Pennywise once again.

Thoughts on Chastain joining the film? If she signs on, I bet she won’t be the only big name to get cast. Who else should join her in the highly-anticipated sequel? Weigh in below.

Production for the sequel is set to begin this summer with a release date of September 6, 2019 in mind.
