Just days after Elisabeth Hasselbeck announced her departure on The View, we already have a new panelist. Jenny McCarthy is officially on board for the ABC talk show’s 17th season. However, she’s not Hasselbeck’s replacement but rather taking Joy Behar’s seat when her contract expires in August.
“We are delighted that Jenny will be joining us as a permanent co-host on ‘The View’ starting in September,” Barbara Walters says in a statement. “Jenny brings us intelligence as well as warmth and humor. She can be serious and outrageous. She has connected with our audience and offers a fresh point of view. Jenny will be a great addition to the show as we usher in an exciting new chapter for ‘The View.'”
What this bodes for McCarthy’s weekly talk show on VH1 is anyone’s guess. I’m thinking fans of the chatfest probably shouldn’t hold their breath for a second season. Prior to joining The View, Jenny has appeared on the show as a guest and fill-in host over a dozen times. I don’t expect any first day jitters on September 9 when she officially joins the cast.
“I’m beyond thrilled to be joining Barbara and the other amazing women at the table. I’d like to thank ABC for this great opportunity. I’d also like to give a big thank you to VH1” — where she hosted a late-night show earlier this year — “for their support and for allowing me to fulfill this lifelong dream. I look forward to helping make hot topics a little bit hotter, and showing my mom that my interrupting skills have finally paid off.” – Jenny McCarthy
